FAQs

Common Questions

Do I need a seller's permit?
Generally, yes, if you sell or lease tangible goods in California that are normally taxable, even if you only sell part-time or online. We'll confirm what your business needs and register you with the CDTFA.
How often do I have to file?
The CDTFA assigns your filing schedule (monthly, quarterly, or yearly) based on how much tax you report. Some businesses also have to make quarterly prepayments. We track your schedule for you.
What is use tax?
Use tax applies when you buy taxable items for your business without paying California sales tax, such as from an out-of-state seller. It's reported on your sales and use tax return, and it's a common audit issue.
I'm behind on sales tax returns. What should I do?
File as soon as possible. Penalties and interest keep growing. We'll prepare your missing returns and, where it applies, help you request penalty relief or a payment plan with the CDTFA.
How much does sales tax filing cost?
It depends on your filing frequency, number of locations, and sales volume. We'll give you a flat price after a free consultation.
